The Northland Indian Association (NIAI) is a community-based, non-profit organization representing people of Indian origin living across Northland — including Whangārei, Kaikohe, Kerikeri, and Kaitaia. The association serves as a cultural and social hub, uniting individuals and families to celebrate Indian heritage while contributing to the vibrant multicultural fabric of New Zealand.
NIAI is dedicated to preserving and promoting Indian culture through festivals, music, dance, art, and education. The association organizes events such as Diwali, Holi, and Indian Independence Day, providing opportunities for the wider community to experience the richness of Indian traditions. These celebrations not only strengthen cultural identity but also encourage understanding and friendship among diverse communities in Northland.
Beyond cultural events, NIAI actively supports new migrants, helping them settle into the region by offering guidance, local connections, and a sense of belonging. The association also provides platforms for artists, performers, and youth to showcase their talent, while encouraging participation in music, theatre, literature, sports, and educational activities.
Committed to community wellbeing, NIAI promotes initiatives that address health awareness, personal development, and social support. Through collaboration with other cultural and local organizations, NIAI continues to build bridges, inspire inclusion, and nurture the values and traditions that define the Indian community in Northland.
